Week 7, Assignment 2:Blog Post
The two new sources that I included in my annotated
bibliography are Monitoring Child Progress in Early Childhood Special Education
Settings written by Sharon Raver and Inclusion Works written by the California
Department of Education. The gap that the sources helped to fill in my research
question was by obtaining information on children’s progress in a special
education setting. The three major findings of my research were the various
assessments that are conducted to monitor the children’s progress, the matrix,
and the modifications that are made in the classrooms to meet the individual
needs of the children. What I wish to further research on is early childhood
interventions. I want to know if they are effective in ensuring that children are
provided the proper services. Also, I want to continue to research for
statistical information on the effectiveness of early childhood in a inclusive
settings.
Are young children with disabilities provided the appropriate
services they need in an early childhood inclusive setting?

Week 6, Assignment 2: Blog Post
This week I was introduced how to determine if something is common
knowledge or if it needs to be cited it. Also, I learned about intellectual
property and the legalities involved. Personally the tutorial “Intellectual
Property” and quiz assisted me to apply what I had learned about intellectual
property. I enjoyed learning about Creative Commons licensing and the different
types of access each license affords. Furthermore, I feel that the information I learned will
affect my research practices by implementing what I have learned. After, reading this week’s reading assignments and tutorials I
have a better understanding about academic integrity, plagiarism, intellectual
property, and copyright. At this time, I am not unclear about academic
integrity or plagiarism. However, I know that if I am unclear in the future I may
contact my instructor, academic advisor, or the Bradman’s librarians so they
can assist me with any questions.

Week 5, Assignment 2: Blog Post
This week I selected to read the article titled Special
education dissertation research in early childhood: A descriptive analysis by Carol
Ann Davis, Michael P. Brady, and Nella B. Anderson. As I read the article I was
able to obtain information about the wide diversity of investigative methods,
topics, and subjects. It appears that research training in early childhood
special education is heeding the call for an emphasis on empirical
investigation.
As I reviewed the references section it contained included
the book titled Early intervention for infants and children with handicaps: An
empirical base by Odom & M. Karnes I am interested in researching on the types
of early intervention that have been conducted and how effective they have been.
I feel that my research skills have improved immensely. Now I
am able to research databases and effectively conduct research. Also I am also
able to take notes as I conduct my research. I found that the text book and
video tutorials have been very supportive in improving my research skills.

Week 4, Assignment 2: Blog Post
The peer reviewed journal I selected assisted me in
acquiring knowledge regarding the effectiveness of the services provided to young
children with disabilities in an early childhood setting. Also I learned about
the improvements that can be made in order to effectively provide services to
young children with disabilities and their families. I was also able to read on
the present barriers that IDEA faces such as; access to services, the quality
of services, cost and funding, and outcomes.
The search strategies that were helpful in locating the
article were Badke’s suggestion which was start broadly than narrow in stages.
I also found it beneficial to view the suggested tutorials assigned this week. It
assisted me in knowing the difference between a Popular Periodicals vs.
Scholarly Publications. The frustration that I experienced this week was
finding articles that were relevant to the topic I was researching on. I
skimmed through a couple of articles with no results. However, when I changed
my keyword search I was able to obtain several relevant articles. What I hope
to further conduct research on is how programs are monitoring the progress of children
receiving services in an early childhood inclusive setting.

The book that I selected was Early Childhood Intervention:
Shaping the Future for Children with Special Needs and Their Families by
Christina Groark. The knowledge that I obtained from the book was the
importance of early childhood interventions. Also I was able to obtain
statistical information regarding special education. The search strategy that
was helpful in locating my book was Badke’s 8.1.2 “Get to know the material
without reading it all”. I applied the steps the author suggested and was able
to narrow my list of books. Since, this was the first time I was searching for
electronic books I was glad that I read Brandman University’s Library and
Research Guide I was able to obtain valuable information.
On my initial search
I had a difficult time finding specific books on my topic because of the key
words I selected. However as I applied Badke’s suggestions 3.2.1 “Database
basics for keyword searching” I was able to find several books that were
relevant to my topic. What I will continue to research on is the challenges of
implementing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

Week 2: Blog Post
The knowledge that I acquired as I conducted my research was the history of inclusion, the change in terminology, and the variations of preschool inclusive programs. For instance, the change in terminology was encouraged in part by the philosophy that inclusion needed to mean more than only physical placement of children with disabilities in the same classroom (Buysse, & Soukakou, 2011 p.2).
The new search strategies that I used as I conducted my research was using specific search terms related to my topic. Also, I limited my search to domain searches such as .edu. I saved and bookmarked the sources. I enjoyed using the Leatherby Libraries website because it allowed me opportunity to create a folder and narrow my search by selecting full text contents.
This was the first time that I used online reference sources such as Leatherby Libraries and Google scholar I was very excited to further conduct my research from these and other sources. Personally, I think that using the document “Evaluating Information-Applying the CRAAP Test” was very beneficial because I was able to evaluated the sources and narrow down list by relevance and authority. The specific aspect that I wish to further research on is the impact of inclusion on young children with disabilities.

Welcome!
Welcome! My name is Deydalia Fraydealfaro my major is early childhood
education. I am currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in early childhood
education. I selected this field because I enjoy working with children and
their families. This is my third semester at Brandman University. My career aspirations are to further my
education and become a special education teacher.
The specific aspect of the career path I am pursuing that I would
like to research on is inclusive education. The reason is because I want to acquire
knowledge in this subject especially if I wish to work in the field of special
education.
The specific areas that I hope to improve this term are information
literacy and information technology. I want to feel comfortable researching on
the computer, databases, and other sources that are credible. Many times when I
am researching for information I find that I have a challenging time knowing
what is credible and what is not. Also, want to improve my skills in using
library databases to find scholarly literature. I want to be able to use a wide
variety of informational sources to expand my knowledge, ask informed
questions, and improve my critical thinking skills.
